Hepatitis B is a virus that attacks the liver through several methods, including (but not limited to) sharing of foods, unprotected sex, blood transfusion, contaminated needles and from a mother carrier to her baby. There are no symptoms for this disease. Thus, it is important to get Hepatitis B testing if you think you may have contracted the virus. There is no cure for the virus, but treatments are available for those who are chronically infected. If you believe you have been exposed to the virus, or have friends who are carriers, it is important to go for testing. If left untreated, Hepatitis B can cause cirrhosis, liver disease, liver cancer, and eventually death. The best way to prevent the disease is by getting Hepatitis B vaccination as soon as your blood test results are out!
